of SKiLDbites.

Update
on SKiLD learning programme
8
& 9 February 2010
Birmingham - exclusively for development
workers from the West Midlands
Run in
partnership with Community Sector Coalition
(CSC).
This course is a one and a half day
residential with a follow up four to six weeks
later.
The liberating leadership training is
designed for development workers to enable them
to help people recognise their role as leaders
in their community and to develop confidence
skills and knowledge.
Diversity - making it
real - 16 February
2010 Manchester
 You don't need
to know about diversity do you? It doesn't
affect you does it?
Yes it does, diversity affects you in all
aspects of your everyday and working life. If
acknowledges that you live in a society with
communities of people of differing race and
ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age,
religion, belief and disability.
This introductory course will help
you:
- develop the knowledge and skills you need to
understand diversity and tackle inequality in
the organisations you work with
- look at the similarities and difference
between equal opportunities and diversity
- introduce you to UK legislation on diversity
- provide you with practical strategies to
address diversity issues in the groups you
support.

management?
The topics covered will include:
- the skills you need to be a good manager
- management in the third sector
- teams, and being part of a team
- the tricky things that managers have to

For people who have been supporting groups
for a while, and want some new ideas and
techniques.
This day will introduce
- practical tools about common issues, to use
with groups
- creative techniques for working with
groups
At the end of the day you will have a stock
of tools that are ready to use or to be
adapted.

learning from the National Performance Programme
led by Charities Evaluation Services
(CES)
Strategic planning in the South
East? Evaluation in the East Midlands? Quality
in the North West?
The National Performance Programme at CES
will be training in Southampton, Brighton,
Leicester, Nottingham, Liverpool and Warrington
throughout February and March. So if you'd like
to improve your performance management support
skills, book a place and bring a friend - it's
'two for one' on all courses at the

Leadership and Governance workstream led by NCVO
Trustee
Recruitment Learning Forum - 30 March 2010

This event is funded through the Leadership
and Governance National Support, and is for
infrastructure organisations who support
organisations to recruit trustees. The day will
include a mixture of presentations, practical
information, and networking opportunities to
enable participants to share information and
experiences with peers about supporting trustee
recruitment.
Across the country and in other sectors
there is innovative work being undertaken to
increase awareness of board level volunteering.
This is an opportunity to come together to share
this learning and expertise to create, innovate
and find practical ways of recruiting
trustees.

Campaigning and Advocacy workstream led by

Skilling Up for Stronger Voices -

 This course is
not for representatives themselves, but is
for course participants who will then deliver
the materials to local representatives. The
course is to equip course participants with the
information and materials they need to deliver
the Skilling Up for Stronger Voices resources in
their area of benefit.

This training from One East Midlands and
NCVO Third Sector Foresight is specifically for
people who support frontline
organisations.
The training will help you to support
frontline organisations to understand change and
plan more effectively.

 The team has
been working on the SKiLD framework with the
Children's Workforce Development Council Advisor
and the Every Child Matters Manager to add
resources and competencies related to
development workers who support children and

Empowering the Voluntary Sector
(EVS)

The National Training Awards - Get
Involved!
The National Training Awards 2010 were
launched last month. NAVCA entered this last
year, featuring the Empowering the Voluntary
Sector training course delivered in partnership
with the Public Law Project (PLP). The EVS
training was pleased to be named a winner in the
Training Provider Category in the
Yorkshire & Humber region for
2009.

Democracy Days - getting to the
levers of power
 NAVCA and
the WEA are bringing Democracy Days to
communities around the country as partners
in the national Train the Take
Part Trainers project. Four one-day
conferences are already planned for March and
are expected to be lively events for staff
in LIOs or public bodies seeking to engage VCF
reps or activists in the structures of power and

Young People and Money training -
various dates and locations
The Financial Services Authority is
delivering free financial capability training
for practitioners working with vulnerable and at
risk young people who are not in education,
employment or training. Young People and Money
is a free one-day course that provides ideas and
activities that you can use with young people to

Launch event for children's centre

 Every day,
practitioners engaged in outreach from
children's centres enable families to access
services. CWDC, in partnership with NAPP and

National Occupational Standards for
development workers
Skills - Third Sector are now
looking for development workers who
are interested in developing the NOS to be
part of a steering group. They expect that
this will involve a small
number of meetings, to be held in York, together
with some reading of draft documents prior to
meeting between February and June 2010. Expenses
will be paid for attendance at meetings.
