NAVCA
says vote on 4 JuneNAVCA calls on all readers to
vote in the European elections on 4 June. Under
proportional representation the BNP do better if
people don't vote. The Searchlight website
shows that BNP policies are incompatible with the
ethos of NAVCA and its members. http://www.searchlightmagazine.com. You can also follow the link from
Searchlight to the Hope Not Hate site, http://www.hopenothate.org.uk. If you can't decide who to vote
for, Unlock Democracy has launched Vote Match,
http://www.votematch.co.uk/europe.
Politically the
European election offers the chance for the BNP to
break out of the fringes. A single MEP could
deliver the BNP with as much as £250,000 a year in
salaries, resources and office costs.
Remember, because its
proportional representation, the BNP will do
better if people don't vote, so please make sure
you tell as many people as possible to
vote.
EHRC

Equalities and Human
Rights Commission (EHRC) has published a guidance
document on the responsibilities of councils
during election campaigns. It does not apply
directly to voluntary sector bodies, but does set
out what they can expect their council to do (for
all levels of local authorities). Please bring
this publication to the notice of your local
authority. http://bit.ly/Fu0I4 or http://www.equalityhumanrights.com

Local support services for local
sports clubsNAVCA Chief Executive Kevin Curley
wrote to Brigid Simmonds OBE, chair of CCPR,
concerning reports in 'the Guardian' that 6000
sports clubs may close. Her reply states that CCPR
and its members (the national governing bodies of
sport) are looking at how best to support these
clubs. We hope NAVCA members will make contact
with struggling local sports clubs and offer
funding advice. http://www.navca.org.uk/news/sportguardian.htm

Voluntary Organisations'
Network North East (VONNE) recently conducted a
survey to measure the impact of the recession on
the North East's third sector. The results show
that, at a time when almost half of voluntary
sector groups are reporting a rise in requests for
help, 56% are already seeing a negative impact in
their funding as public sector agencies and
funders tighten their belts. http://www.vonne.org.uk/news/news_article.php?id=593

published a full analysis of the National
Survey of Third Sector Organisations. http://www.nstso.com. The NSTSO website provides an
'online reporting tool' allowing you to compare
your area against the national average, and to
compare national data across different survey
questions. There is a lot of information and
we are doing some analysis but would really
appreciate hearing your views.
