Consultation on voluntary, community and faith sector (VCFS) engagement mechanisms in Surrey

NAVCA has been working in Surrey to develop new engagement arrangements. The following documents are available as an example of the work we are doing with third sector organisations and local public bodies on developing an engagement strategy.

Background

Strategic Partnerships in Surrey are currently operating on a transitional arrangement until a new system is developed and agreed to move towards a more structured approach. There is great commitment from the partnership and all its members to ensure that it has robust and effective engagement of the VCFS. This will facilitate a collective view of diverse communities being brought to the partnership arena.

NAVCA was commissioned to work with the voluntary, community and faith sector in Surrey to formulate proposals for engagement models for the Surrey Strategic Partnership.

Phase one of the work has been to engage with a broad range of organisations across the county to map current routes for VCFS engagement and to identify aspirations for future models. The desire was to develop systems and processes that fit Surrey rather than try and impose models utilised elsewhere. This work has taken place between June and September 2008. In total over 44 organisations have been involved in this process, the majority from the VCFS but all statutory organisations have also been engaged to ensure any proposal arising from the work has taken their expectations into account.

The Surrey VCSF engagement proposal and consultation outlines the key findings from phase one and the proposal to develop a VCFS assembly for Surrey. Phase two of the work will involve the proposals in the document being open for consultation for a three-month period from Monday 29 September 2008 in line with The Surrey Compact principles.

Upon completion of the consultation period the results will be analysed and recommendations made to the Surrey Strategic Partnership on a way forward.

The aim is to ensure new systems are put into practice as early in 2009 as possible.
