There are many initiatives to help local third sector organisations through the recession. These include:

Real Help for communities

The Office of the Third Sector action plan outlining £42.5m support for the third sector in the difficult economic climate. Real Help for Communities: Volunteers, Charities and Social Enterprises

 

Capacitybuilders

Futurebuilders and Capacitybuilders will work together in partnership to deliver the £16.5m Modernisation Fund element of the Government's £42.5m initiative to help the third sector through the recession.

Capacitybuilders has confirmed details of £1m of investment that will be distributed to local support organisations as an immediate response to address the impacts of the recession.

NCVO

The NCVO website has a section with tips on how to survive the downturn

Backing Communities: local solutions: councils and voluntary and community organisations supporting people through the recession is a joint report by LGA and NCVO highlighting work that local authorities are doing with third sector partners to support local people through the recession. NAVCA members provided several case studies.

With support from a number of organisations (including CFDG, Citizens Advice, NAVCA, Community Matters, Volunteering England, Acevo) NCVO has published Support in Uncertain Times (PDF 12KB), advice and support on a range of topics which will help address key challenges identified by charity leaders.

NCVO held its second recession summit in June 2009.

Charities Aid Foundation

CAF has opened a confidential Financial Crisis Helpline. Charity leaders worried about their organisation's financial viability can request a one-off confidential discussion with experienced managers who will listen to concerns and suggest steps for survival. Phone 0800 980 2000.

ACEVO

Recession support is ACEVO's online portal offering practical advice and support on how to lead through these challenging times.

Institute of Fundraising

The Institute of Fundraising, with Charity Finance Directors' Group, and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), has published Credit Crunch: Fundraising in an economic slowdown, research from the Institute of Fundraising and the which looks at the potential impact of an economic slowdown, on fundraising organisations. The results are of particular relevance to fundraising and finance directors, and will support charities' plans for the future.

Charity Finance Director's Group

CFDG has launched a Recession Watch web page with the latest news and advice on the recession, and advice and services available to CFDG members.
