Sport and the voluntary and community sector

Table tennis rackets

Voluntary and community sector organisations have an interest in promoting health and wellbeing, tackling social exclusion and promoting community cohesion. Sports organisations can play a vital role in meeting these aims. However, they are not always linked in with the wider voluntary and community sector and its support structures. Therefore sports organisations may miss out on funding, information and networking opportunities. Equally, generalist voluntary and community sector organisations and their members may use sport and physical activity to address wider aims but not be linked in with sports infrastructure and delivery systems.
