Following a meeting with NAVCA and the Howard League for Penal Reform, the Charity Commission has agreed to take a closer look at the role of charities in prisons.

Kevin Curley, NAVCA Chief Executive, Mike Martin, NAVCA Chair and Frances Crook, Chief Executive of the Howard League met with Dame Suzi Leather, Chair of the Charity Commission, to discuss our concerns about charities running prisons in England.

Speaking in her blog shortly after the meeting, Frances Crook said "I am very pleased with that outcome" and that the Charity Commission had agreed to "do some fact finding so it has a better understanding of the issues".

NAVCA would like to thank our members for participating in a survey on this subject last month. Their feedback informed these discussions and confirmed that we are representing the thoughts and experiences of our membership.
