NAVCA has announced a series of initiatives to support local
third sector organisations in the light of the new Children's
Plan.
The Plan sets out a series of Government commitments to 2020 on
the wellbeing, safety, development and education of children and
young people. The Plan highlights the contribution of the third
sector in terms of expertise, engagement with local communities and
service delivery, but also suggests that the sector could do more
to ensure consistent standards and follow safe recruitment
practices.
With funding from the Children's Workforce
Development Council, NAVCA is enabling local third sector
infrastructure organisations to support groups to respond to the
challenges and opportunities in the plan.
The initiatives announced today are:
- A free email network - CYPNet -
for third sector workers with an interest in children and young
people's issues
-
Small grants to support third sector workers to undertake
training and to share good practice with others
- A one-day learning event, to be held in March, on the
Children's Plan and forthcoming children's workforce development
strategy.
Kevin Curley, Chief Executive of NAVCA, says "Many local
infrastructure organisations provide excellent support for work
with children and young people, but as the Children's Plan moves
activity up a gear, so the support available to the third sector
will need to grow. NAVCA's partnership with CWDC will help to
ensure that LIOs have the skills and knowledge they need to respond
to this challenge."
