If you were unable to attend NAVCA's annual conference last week
in Nottingham, you can still hear the keynote speakers thanks to
NAVCA's first ever 'vodcasts' on YouTube. NAVCA's use of vodcasts
follows its first ever podcast in August. NAVCA used its conference
to trial several forms of what is called new or social media. As
well as the vodcasts, NAVCA recorded two more podcasts, used Flickr
to share photos and had a conference blog. You can find it all by
going to our conference web
page.
Kevin Curley, NAVCA's Chief Executive said:
"NAVCA conference saw an explosion of new media. We had
podcasts, vodcasts, blogs and put photos on Flickr. I am thrilled
that NAVCA is looking to take advantage of the opportunities new
media can offer. NAVCA has to make sure that we both show our
members what can be done and also support them to do it
themselves".
Paul Webster, NAVCA's ICT Support Officer, said:
"ICT is often seen as complicated and expensive - but it does not
always have to be. Podcasts, videos, e-bulletins, blogs and
photo-sharing sites can be relatively inexpensive ways to share
information, keep people informed and establish a collaborative
framework of two way communication.
"Our Regional ICT Champions project provides a network to
support local infrastructure organisations by informing them of new
developments in technology, together with making the most of what
they already have. Through this approach we aim for local
infrastructure to provide the best services possible for local
third sector groups. I hope that NAVCA's first YouTube video
encourages other groups to think about what they can gain if they
are willing to embrace the opportunities that new or social media
can bring".
