Voluntary Action in the 21st Century

On 3 June the Conservatives launched Voluntary Action in the 21st Century, a Green Paper which highlights the importance of the third sector and sets out ways to encourage it as a force for social progress.

NAVCA has published a briefing (Word, 114 KB) looking at what the Conservatives say, setting out their proposals and the possible implications for NAVCA members.

We will be responding formally to the Conservatives and want to make sure that we accurately represent our members' views. Therefore, we are asking members to complete a survey to inform our response. We would like responses by Friday, 26 September (deadline has been extended).

The Conservative Party are keen to talk to groups about these ideas. NAVCA has put them in touch with 11 of our members who are keen to hold local consultations later in the year. Greg Clark MP, Shadow Minister for Charities, Social Enterprise and Volunteering has written to Kevin Curley to say:
"This is tremendous news and will be immensely helpful in developing and testing the policy proposals further … Over the summer we will be collating the comments we have received on the Paper so far and will then be arranging a series of meetings of which the NAVCA consultations will now be an extremely important part".
We will publish more details of these events as soon as they become available.

In September at our Annual Conference we are giving our members a chance to talk directly to Greg Clark, Shadow Minister for Charities, Social Enterprise and Volunteering, who is a keynote speaker.
