The Centre for Crime and
Justice Studies has published a report entitled
'Partners or Prisoners? Voluntary sector independence in the world
of commissioning and contestability'.
The report draws together the themes from a debate on the current
challenges facing the voluntary sector work in the criminal justice
system in maintaining its financial and organisational
independence.
The debate was held earlier this year and was chaired by Mark
Easton, Home Editor at BBC News. An audience of some 150 people
heard from an expert panel composed of Tina Jenkins (Head of Third
Sector and Strategy, Ministry of Justice), Clive Martin (Director,
Clinks) and Matthew Smerdon (Deputy Director, The Baring
Foundation).
