Sport England have provided
funding for a national pilot around Local Area Agreements to
demonstrate the links between National Indicators 7
and 8 - thriving third sector and increasing adult
participation in sport (and where possible NI 6 increased
volunteering).
York CVS and East Riding Voluntary Action have
been selected as pilot areas.
York City Council has adopted NI 6, 7 and 8. East Riding County
Council have selected NI 7 and 8. A steering group
will be established to guide the pilots and will
include: Regional Forum, Sport England, Government Office Yorkshire
and Humber, Open
College Network and
Yorkshire Faith Forum
The pilots will start in September 2008 and last for 6 months. Mike
Clemson has been appointed as a consultant to work
with the pilot areas, alongside NAVCA's Sport
Partnership Strategic Adviser,
Carrie
McKenzie.
These pilots provide an excellent opportunity for NAVCA and
its members to demonstrate the links between sport and
the wider third sector, at a national level. Many
sports clubs and organisations have the same
infrastructure needs as organisations in the wider third
sector. NAVCA and Sport England hope this pilot will
help us show that LIOs can work with sport as part of a
thriving third sector and this in turn can increase
the numbers of adults volunteering in and
participating in sport. We will keep members informed
about the pilot and progress made - if you would like more
