Nine NAVCA representatives met with Andrew Stunell MP, Minister for Decentralisation and Localism on 27 October.

They explained to the minister why strong local support and development organisations are vital if 'localism' is to bring real benefit to communities. They also pressed for a strong message from Communities and Local Government to local councils, along the lines of the Prime Minister's remarkably supportive answer to a parliamentary question earlier this month when he said:

"We should say to every single council in the country, when it comes to looking at your budgets and trimming your budgets, don't do the easy thing - which is to cut money to the voluntary bodies and to organisations working in our communities". See Hansard website).

The delegation was led by Mike Martin (NAVCA Chair) and included Jake Ferguson (Hackney), Sue Dovey (Hampshire), Nero Ughwujabo (Croydon), Alex Whinnom (Manchester), Paul Tolley (Warwickshire) and Helen Voce (Nottingham).
