Localism Bill: Right to buy and right to challenge consultations

16/03/2011

NAVCA has produced two briefings on the community right to buy and the community right to challenge. These rights are being introduced as part of the coalition government's Localism Bill.

The right to challenge is intended to give voluntary and community bodies, parish councils and local authority employees the right to bring their proposals for taking on the running of local public services.

The right to buy is intended to give communities new powers to save local facilities threatened with closure or simply to identify and list assets in order to protect them.

NAVCA is seeking members' views to inform our response to these consultations. In particular we are looking at how we can ensure these new rights give power to local communities and not big business.

Please send your responses to NAVCA by Friday 8 April.

You can also help us by signing up to our Real Power for Communities Campaign.
