NAVCA concern over CLG Best Value Guidance

NAVCA has responded with concern to CLG's draft statutory guidance on Best Value (released on 13 April)

Neil Cleeveley, NAVCA's Policy and Communications Director, said

"Obviously we are pleased to see the measures to deal with disproportionate cuts to the local voluntary and community sector. However, it does little to solve the more important question - how do you build better relationships between local authorities and charities and community groups?

"We are particularly concerned with the scrapping of the Duty to Involve and the Duty to produce a Community Strategy. The danger is that this will create divisions between councils and charities at a time when we need more than ever to be working together."
