Community Matters and NAVCA open merger talks
Community Matters and NAVCA have announced merger talks. Both trustee boards have discussed merger and believe that it would create a new force in local voluntary and community action and be a powerful champion for local charities and community groups. A steering group to look at the possibility of merger between the two organisations has now been formed. The group is made up of trustees and senior staff from both organisations and it will produce recommendations to be considered at the AGMs of Community Matters (6 October) and NAVCA (14 November). A merger decision requires the approval by both organisations respective memberships....
Quarterly survey results published
NAVCA has published the results of its first quarterly survey of members. The survey takes the temperature of NAVCA members and tracks trends in local voluntary. NAVCA has established a representative panel of members to undertake the survey to ensure that the findings accurately reflect the experience of our wider membership, which covers the whole of England....
Lord Hodgson review
NAVCA has responded to Lord Hodgson's official review of the Charities Act 2006. NAVCA is pleased to see recommendations that will make it easier to run a charity, including Lord Hodgson's call for the Charitable Incorporated Organisation legal form to be implemented immediately and the recommendation that charities should be able to voluntarily register with the Charity Commission. However NAVCA is concerned at some proposals, especially the recommendations to raise the threshold to £25,000, allow payment for trustees of large charities and charging new charities to register....
NAVCA welcomes ‘Civic Enterprise’ Report
NAVCA has warmly welcomed the report of the Commission on the Future of Local Government being launched in the House of Lords today (Tuesday 3 July). The report looks at the role of local government in the 21st century and focuses on encouraging civic enterprise. The report defines social enterprise as making councils being more enterprising and providing the leadership that enables their partners to become more civic, and citizens more engaged....
NAVCA Seeks a New Chair
By November’s AGM, Mike Martin MBE will have served for six years in the role of NAVCA Chair, the maximum permitted under our constitution. Therefore NAVCA is seeking a new Chair. Anyone can be nominated for Chair. They do not have to be part of a member organisation. More information about the process and the role of the Chair can be found on our website. The deadline for applying is 6 August....
