Phase 2 http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/publications/crime/criminal-records-review-phase2
Protection of Freedoms Bill
The recommendations from the review have fed into the Protection of Freedoms Bill. The Home Office has provided further supporting information on the bill, including a factsheet on safeguarding of vulnerable groups and CRBs.
Key changes contained in the Bill include:
- Restrictions on the scope of regulation
- Abolishing controlled activity
- Issuing the CRB certificate to the individual rather than the employer
- Introducing portability and continuous updating
- Merging CRB and ISA to create a new Disclosure and Barring Service
Portability & Continous updating
CRB has produced a briefing pack on the proposed continous updating service. Please note these are not definitive statements of how it will work but give a good idea of how the system will work.
