Learning opportunities

Part of NAVCA's role is to support skills and knowledge development in local infrastructure organisations (LIOs). NAVCA offers a number of learning opportunities, including traditional training days, networking events, support for action learning sets, as well as policy events where LIOs can gain the knowledge they need to fulfil their role effectively.

  • SKiLD (Skills and Knowledge for Local Development) - a new learning project for development workers based in LIOs across England
  • Full cost recovery - Our partnership with acevo will offer learning opportunities to development workers and others on full cost recovery
  • Action Learning Matters Project
  • Empowering the voluntary sector - NAVCA and the Public Law Project are working together to run learning events on the use of public law
  • Induction training for new LIO Chief Officers - a day-long course for those new to the network
  • Chief Officers' Residential Event - a two-day event for LIO chief officers to network and share experiences and ideas
  • NAVCA annual conference - a variety of workshops and plenary sessions on a wide range of topics
  • Individual events focus on a variety of policy issues
  • Email networks enable LIO staff to share knowledge and expertise around a variety of interest areas

NAVCA supporting LIOs in delivering learning opportunities

  • Trainers and Consultants Direct is an interactive website listing trainers and consultants who specialise in working with voluntary and community organisations
  • NIACE, in partnership with NAVCA and the Workforce Hub, have produced VCS Learning Links, a website that maps the VCS infrastructure support for learning
  • LearningNet gives LIO training and development specialists an opportunity to share practice and expertise

A number of NAVCA projects are open to discussion about collaboration in the delivery of learning opportunities to the local voluntary and community sector. These include the public law project and the full cost recovery project. If you offer learning opportunities to development workers from other LIOs the SKiLD project would like to hear from you.

NAVCA is involved in influencing learning policy through involvement in the UK Workforce Hub and the Learning and Skills Council, as well as other strategic work.
