Launch of Equality Act Non-Statutory Guidance

The Equality and Human Rights Commission has issued the non-statutory guidance for the Single Equality Act 2010. The new Eqaulity Act comes into force from October 2010; the act brings together lots of different legislation to make equality law simpler and easier to understand.

The commission have created a series of guidance documents to help explain the Act and provide practical examples on how the law has changed. The guidance covers employers, workers, service providers and service users; the most appropriate guidance for the sector in its relationship with public bodies is the service providers' and service user's guidance.

The Empowering the Voluntary Sector project will be working through these documents and aims to publish information on how to use the guidance from a public law and Compact point of view in the autumn. The Commission will launch a web based version of the guidance in mid August, the Code of Practice (statutory guidance) will be published around the same time.

Please note: the guidance does not come into force until 1 October 2010.
