Tools for development workers

Supporting voluntary and community groups can be hard work. Tried and tested practical tools can help.

SKiLD tools for development workers is a new set of bite-sized exercises to support work with groups. From Agreeing Aims to Recruiting a Worker, these tools will help on a range of bread-and-butter topics, typically requested by groups.

About the tools

  • They take 15 - 30 minutes to use.
  • They are deliberately low tech and unintimidating to use.
  • They consist of: instructions; downloadable relevant resources (for instance topic cards), and a powerpoint presentation of supporting information.
  • They are free, and voluntary and community sector development workers don't need to ask permission to use them with groups.
  • They can be adapted for work with specific groups or local circumstances.
  • Have a look at the hints and tips (.DOC, 29 KB) sheet that goes with the tools too.

Feedback

If you've used any of the tools and have comments, please fill in the feedback form (.DOC, 62 KB) and return it to us. You can also get in touch with us if you have any other ideas about possible new tools...

How they were developed

SKiLD tools for development workers was funded by the Governance Hub.

The tools were originally created by a set of development workers who support groups. SKiLD would like to thank them very much for their enthusiasm and brain power.
