Improving Local Partnerships Project

This new NAVCA project funded by the Big Lottery Fund until 2009 aims to build the capacity of voluntary and community local infrastructure organisations to develop their skills and knowledge to:

  • influence local government policy and service planning
  • support the engagement of disadvantaged communities in decision making about service delivery
  • extend reach to black and minority ethnic communities, disabled people and other marginalised people and communities.

The ILP project will influence local and national policy through:

  • 12 Pilot Projects across the country in targeted areas
  • good practice dissemination for all local infrastructure organisations
  • partnership work with national and regional VCS organisations and local government agencies.

In line with NAVCA aims and objectives the project will:

  • provide assistance and information to improve the quality of support and development activities for local voluntary and community sector organisations
  • support local infrastructure organisations to increase their influence on local partnerships (in particular local public service agreements and local area agreements)
  • promote collaboration between generalist and specialist infrastructure organisations to support the inclusion of all local VCS groups in local partnership processes.
