MHCLG published the Pride in Place Strategy on 25 September 2025. The strategy brings together a large number of very diverse strands of work around regeneration, community participation and democracy, health and wellbeing, and cohesion, with some new investment. The Pride in Place programme will extend to another 169 places. Much of the strategy is re-announcements or consolidation of previous funding or policy pledges, but by bringing these different strands into one place, there is more of a coherent approach to what government is trying to achieve overall. Neighbourhood Governance - NAVCA member experience - August 2025

The English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill includes a requirement for forming unitary authorities to establish neighbourhood level governance structures. MHCLG are currently drafting the regulations that will inform how these will be set up and run. We have spoken to many members over the summer who currently work with various neighbourhood boards, community partnerships, area committees etc., and compiled your experiences for MHCLG, identifying some key pointers like the value of coterminous boundaries with health systems, membership and decision-making extending beyond elected councillors and the need for funding. The first section summarises the key learning, the subsequent sections provide detail on different systems in anonymised areas, with a couple of exceptions where it makes sense to name them.

Public Procurement Consultation - NAVCA response
August 2025
A further consultation on provisions of the Procurement Act that apply to SMEs and the VCSE sector were consulted on over the summer. The consultation was effectively a technical consultation, with limited opportunity to respond beyond the questions themselves. NAVCA has submitted a response which picks up some of the broader issues of procurement in relation to VCSE organisations emphasising what else needs to change beyond the proposals currently made.

Nationally, many voluntary organisations saw an influx of volunteers during the pandemic. However, since then, volunteer levels have dropped much lower than they were previously. If this continues, the voluntary sector will not be able to continue to provide the incredible support to our communities that it is known for. This report uses the Vision for Volunteering as a framework to help us better understand what’s working and what’s not, so that our voluntary sector as a whole can keep supporting the community. It celebrates some of the incredible and inspirational work that our local organisations and volunteers are doing to make Teignbridge a stronger, happier place to live, work, and visit. IHE’s new report, ‘England’s Widening Health Gap: Local Places Falling Behind’, confirms widening inequalities in life expectancy between regions in England and within local authorities since 2010. These widening inequalities are associated with an average reduction in local authority spending power of 34 percent. The IHE has looked at every local authority in England and, for each, plotted levels of health, inequalities in health and cuts in their spending power. Local authorities fund many of the services e.g., housing, education and social care, which support or ameliorate the drivers of health inequalities.

This report has been co-produced by staff from Uttlesford Community Action Network (UCAN) and social scientists at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) as part of a consultancy evaluation of a hospital discharge service provided by UCAN. It presents a summary analysis of the academic and policy literature relating to the challenges involved in the safe and timely discharge of patients from hospital, as well as an evaluation of the achievements and challenges entailed by UCAN in supporting safe and timely discharge of patients from Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH), Harlow, to their homes across West Essex, from December 2022 to November 2023. Detailed information is provided on actions undertaken to support patients who were discharged by UCAN’s Ticket Home initiative.
